Short breaks - Lhasa

If you do not have a lot of time or would just like to include Lhasa within the scope of a longer China tour
there are a number of options to explore the highlights of the city on the roof of the world and its immediate surrounds.
here are some suggestions for 4-6 day trips

4 or 5 day Lhasa group sightseeing visiting the main highlights of the "City on the Roof of the World". Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor pilgrim circuit, Drepung Monastery, Nechung Oracle Temple, Sera Monastery.
Consider the option of an extra day to include a day-trip outside the city to Ganden & Drak Yerpa.

Every Thursday May-October, 2019

Lhasa - 4-5 days

A short introduction to the Tibetan world, exploring the major sights of Lhasa.
Add a taste of the vast Tibetan landscape with a day trip to Ganden.

Day 1: Arrive Lhasa - transfer to hotel
Day 2: Lhasa sightseeing: Drepung, Nechung & Sera monasteries
Day 3: Lhasa sightseeing: Potala, Jokhang, Barkhor Pilgrim Circuit (option to add Ramoche Temple)
Day 4: Transfer to airport or station for departure or make a day trip to Ganden & Drak Yerpa.
Day 5: Transfer to airport or station & depart.

Lhasa & Samye - 5 days

As well as exploring the major sights of Lhasa, travel east to Samye, Tibet’s first monastery, and one of its’ most beautiful, set on the banks of the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) River. Also visit the great geomantic temple of Tradruk, founded by King Songsten Gampo and pinning the left shoulder of the supine ogress that is the Tibetan landscape and Yambulakhang, palace of the first Tibetan kings.

Day 1: Arrive Lhasa - transfer to hotel
Day 2: Lhasa sightseeing: Drepung & Sera monasteries (option to add Norbulinka summer palace or the temple of the Nechung State Oracle)
Day 3: Lhasa sightseeing: Potala, Jokhang, Barkhor Pilgrim Circuit (option to add Ramoche Temple)
Day 4: to Samye via Yambulakhang
Day 5: visit Tradruk - transfer to airport & depart (PM flight).

Lhasa & Surrounds - 6 days

A short introduction to the Tibetan world, exploring the major sights of Lhasa and a taste of the surrounding countryside, over-nighting at Tidrum hot springs, visiting the nunnery here and also Drigung Til, head monastery of the Drigung Kagyupa, first destroyed by the armies of Kublai Khan in the C13.

Day 1: Arrive Lhasa - transfer to hotel
Day 2: Lhasa sightseeing: Drepung & Sera monasteries (option to add Norbulinka summer palace or the temple of the Nechung State Oracle)
Day 3: Lhasa sightseeing: Potala, Jokhang, Barkhor Pilgrim Circuit (option to add Ramoche Temple)
Day 4: via Ganden to Tidrum hot springs & visit Tidrum Gompa (nunnery)
Day 5: return to Lhasa, via Drigung Til,
Day 6: Transfer to airport or station & depart.

Lhasa & Namtso - 6 days

A short introduction to the Tibetan world, exploring the major sights of Lhasa and a taste of the vast Tibetan landscape -
Beautiful Lake Namtso is China’s second largest salt water lake and, at 4700m, one of its highest. Nomad camps often dot the surrounding grasslands and the lake is popular with migrating birds. A stunning backdrop of snow capped mountains completes the picture. There are numerous sacred hermitage caves in the area of Tashidor and pilgrims come here both to make the short kora (circumambulation) of the peninsula and the longer 20 day circuit of the entire lake.

Day 1: Arrive Lhasa - transfer to hotel
Day 2: Lhasa sightseeing: Drepung & Sera monasteries (option to add Norbulinka summer palace or the temple of the Nechung State Oracle)
Day 3: Lhasa sightseeing: Potala, Jokhang, Barkhor Pilgrim Circuit (option to add Ramoche Temple)
Day 4: to Namtso & explore Tashidor Peninsula
Day 5: Return to Lhasa
Day 6: Transfer to airport or station & depart.
